Snoop Dogg and Eminem are to perform in the Otherside Metaverse for the annual Music Video Awards, and they are taking along Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs.

They will perform their latest song, “From the D to the LBC”. The VMA performance will take place inside Yuga Labs’, Otherside Metaverse, after a partnership between MTV and Bored Apes makers, Yuga Labs.

The news came in a release from MTV and a tweet from Snoop Dogg.

Sometimes, you would believe that Snoop Dogg is single-handedly bringing NFTs to the world and mainstream culture. He seems to be in everything but the proverbial crib.

VMA Nomination

Snoop Dogg and Eminem are no strangers to the MTV awards, with Eminem the second most nominated artist in history, with sixty nominations. Snoop Dogg has received thirteen VMA nominations.

However, Sunday’s performance will be the rap superstars first-ever joint performance on VMA and the first for over a decade. Furthermore, promoters say it will be a “never seen before experience”.

“D to the LBC” has a VMA nomination for ‘Best Hip Hop Song”. The YouTube video, which has over 46 million views, features 2d animations of their Bored Apes NFTs.

Bored Ape Yacht Club

Over the last year, Bored Ape NFTs and their creators Yuga Labs have broken all records for NFT collections and are probably the second most recognisable name around NFTs. Why second you ask? Well, my money is on the man himself, Snoop Dogg, as the number 1 dog.

The rap legends are no strangers to Bored Ape NFTs, with both being amongst a group of high-profile celebrity owners that includes Madonna and Justin Beiber.

Eminem owns Bored Ape #9055, for which he paid $452,000 in December, while Bored Ape #6723 is owned by Snoop Dogg’s DeathRowNFTs.

All the celebrity exposure around the project keeps it in the news. Therefore, new additions to the BAYC eco-system are big events. These include OtherDeed NFTs and the venue for the virtual performance.

Otherside Metaverse

The venue, The Otherside, is being developed in partnership with Hong Kong-based Animoca Brands, the company behind SandBox. At the moment, only OtherDeed NFT holders, which on launch brought in over $310m in sales, and selected developers are allowed to play the MMORPG game.

The Otherside metaverse performance is a testament to the progress developers are making.

Afterthoughts

The metaverse-inspired performance is another feather in the cap for the mass adoption of NFTs. I cannot wait to see the music video and hear the reactions to the show.

Finally, for Yuga Labs to bring Bored Ape NFTs to the VMA is an admirable achievement for the team.
